 My kiddos...a little naughty and a whole lot of nice.  I love these three!!

Today I made this cute Christmas garland, and got the idea to do Christmas PJs Photos with my two little ones.  This should be a FUN shoot, and if all goes well, I will be offering it next year as a regular part of my holiday shoots.

Great questions!  I have scoured Pinterest so that I can help you (and help ME) see some fantastic ways to display photos, so maybe this will help it make a bit easier for you and me both.

Ok, I'll stop now.  So, as you can see, there are so many ways to use photos to create a beautiful display in your home.  I am working on doing my own very special photo display, and I will post a photo or two of it when I'm all done.  Oh, and mine will be a bit eclectic, so it won't be "photos only".  That's what I love about the home decor style right now!  Make it your own...do what you like.  It doesn't have to be "House Beautiful" perfect...it just needs to suit you and your family's style and lifestyle.

I can now honestly say that figuring out what your family is going to wear for your family portraits is TOUGH!!  I am planning our family portraits with a friend who is also a photographer, and being the plus-sized girl that I am, I have only a few choices where I can shop.  I always try to tell clients to start with one person's outfit, and then draw colors from that person's clothing.

So, I looked and looked and looked until I FINALLY was able to find something to wear for myself!  Once I had found my top, I went to Etsy to order a custom made dress from Addison Ava.  My guys will be pretty easy, because my hubby and 19 year old son will be wearing gray shirts.  I'm still on the hunt for a teal or dark aqua (not bright) button up shirt for my 5 year old.

That said, I will continue to offer these "What to Wear" ideas for you, including the one you see above, which would be perfect for Fall or Autumn, or whatever YOU call it.

I was so honored to be able to take this family's photos.  They are a precious and wonderful family, who has been through a LOT in the past couple of years and they still love & trust God with all that they are, and I am blessed to know them!  Aren't their boys the cutest ever???!!!

Your senior year is coming up and you are super excited!  Now is the time to begin thinking about senior portraits and what you will wear.  Here is a suggested look for girls, whether you love city chic or country cute, this is a perfect look for your senior portraits.

Sometimes, it can be tough trying to figure out what to wear for your photo session.  The best rule of thumb is find one piece of clothing that has a print, and draw your color palette from that print.

For example, see that plaid shirt up there?  That was my inspiration for this palette of what to wear.  Everyone's outfit matches the plaid shirt & shorts outfit, without being too "matchy-matchy".  It's probably best to avoid that "everyone in jeans and white shirts" look, which is pretty outdated.

 I had the very special privilege to photograph baby "Z" Larson when he was just 20 days old.  The privilege was so special, because my husband and I were blessed to be able to bring together his mommy and daddy at my 40th birthday party.  We had introduced them to each other a couple years before that, but when Z's daddy asked my husband to help him "find" his helpmate and wife, we were SO excited, because we knew just the girl for him!!!  They were married in March of 2011, and had this little guy in April of this year.  What a circle of blessing for our family!

 This sweet family is from our church.  Dad is our associate pastor and Mom & kids are his super support team!  Maternity sessions with families can be so fun!  I love to get the kids involved in different things, and capture their personalities at this stage in their lives.

Pregnancy can be such an amazing time in your life.  You may not necessarily FEEL beautiful, but just know that you ARE!  This is such an incredible and miraculous thing that is going on with your body, and you should take the opportunity to document this time.

 I recently purchased a new backdrop for my photography business, and couldn't wait to use it.  So, I set everything up in our daughter's bedroom, dressed her up and fixed her hair, and handed her her pink ukulele. (I had some great advice from a GREAT photographer, to hand children something to play with if you want to get some amazing "storytelling" photos.) The rest is history.  I just let her do her thing, and I was able to get some beautiful "lifestyle" photos of her, that will be precious treasures as she grows out of that "toddler" stage.

 This weekend, I was able to take my 18 year old son with me to go to Colorado Springs for the weekend.  We went because my baby brother is in the Army and would be leaving for his first deployment ever...going to Afghanistan.  I wanted to take photos of him, his wife, and their baby before he left.  I also wanted to meet my nephew for the first time.  We went to Garden of the Gods and took some pictures there in the COLD WIND!

We also got some photos outside the front door of their apartment and one inside the apartment.  I was so sad to say goodbye for 9 months, but not nearly as sad as my brother and his wife were, I'm sure.  I'm so grateful for this time we had together, and I am trusting God to cover my brother with His wings, while he is in Afganistan.

Paris @ Christmas

This month's photo challenge over at www.rocktheshotforum is "LOVE".  When I saw this, I knew I had the perfect photo to enter.

The photo above is one I took on Monday, February 13th, of Baby Otto and his mommy.  I had the honor of photographing this precious 3 month old baby, who has Downs Syndrome, and was headed for a major heart surgery on February 16th, due to a congenital heart defect.  You see, I have an 18 year old son who was born with half a heart and had his first heart surgery at 7.5 months, and his second at 2.5 years.  I would have LOVED to have gotten professional photos taken of my son before he had a scar that couldn't be undone.  So, I offered to do a photo shoot for this family, as a gift to them.

Baby Otto and his mommy are definitely in love with each other, and you can clearly see it in this photo.  Funny thing is, we didn't plan any mommy and baby photos...this one just happened.  I saw mommy loving on Otto, and I had to snap the picture!

By the way, Otto had his surgery and it was successful!  He should be coming home any day now!

You see, Otto is having heart surgery on Thursday, February 16th.  His heart does not have the walls between the four chambers like most of us.  He also needs a defective valve replaced.

I wanted to take photos of Otto, so that his family would have some beautiful, scar-free photos to show him when he gets older.  That way, they can share with him, like I did with my son (who had a heart surgery at age 7.5 months and another at age 2.5 years), about his heart surgery, and how God brought him through so much.

God loves Otto SO much, and so do his family and many, many other people.  I hope that you might take the time to pray for Otto and his family, as they go through this stressful time.  Otto will be in the hospital at least 10 days, and I know from experience that his mommy and daddy will need God's strength and power, as well as His love and comfort as they go through this time.

I LOVE baby feet!

This little guy was just 6 days old when I photographed him.  He was wide awake during the whole shoot, and was a trooper through it all.

This is my 18 year old son, who is a high school senior.  In the Elizabeth Halford workshop that I am taking, on "Shooting Children", our homework was to do a stylized sort of shoot, using props, and bringing out the personalities of our children.

My son is a heart and stroke patient.  He was born with half a heart and had 5 strokes at the age of 2-1/2.  The strokes paralyzed his right side, took his speech and hearing, and took most of his cognitive abilities.  We truly believe that God has a very special purpose for Caleb.  He has diligently tried out for the high school basketball team since he was a freshman, and has been disappointed each time, because he was not chosen.  But this year, things were a little different.  All the guys who made the team asked him to be the team manager.  How cool is that??!!  So, he is the  manager for the freshman, JV, and Varsity teams, and he LOVES it, just as much as he loves basketball.  We are so proud of him, and can really see how God is working in his life.

This is my Christmas mantel.  No, it's not something you would see in the latest issue of "House Beautiful", but we love it.  This is the first year we've decorated this mantel like this, with the garland and lights.  

There are so many wonderful memories in this photos.  

There are two red wax "statues" of Christmas carolers that were purchased by my parents from Avon many, many years ago...when I was very young.  I always remember the smell  of those carolers in my home as a young girl, and it brings back warm memories.

There are little trinkets that my now 18 year old son purchased with points at Awanas, during the Christmas season, just to give to me.  I will cherish those little trinkets for many years to come.

There are snow globes, which is our family tradition with Papa Bear and I and our kids.  We get a new one each year, and now we have four, since we started this tradition.

There is a little angel on our mantel, that was given to us by Papa Bear's mom.  She has had this angel (that came in a set of 3 angels....one for each of her three children) for many years...kind of like the wax carolers.

There are stocking holders that we have had to add to as the years go by.  We started with three, and now there are SIX (we currently have a foster child who is 1 year old).


There is a "cutting board" with a sleeping Christmas mouse tole painted on it, from a tole painting class I took with my dad when we lived in Okinawa.

There is a ceramic snowman that was given to me as a gift from my sister-in-law.

And there is a mantel clock, given to us by one of my brothers and his wife, for our wedding in 2004.

If I didn't want to risk it getting ruined or falling apart, there would be a stocking hung over the fireplace that was made by my great-great aunt, and given to me for my very first Christmas.  I want to protect it because some of the adornments are coming off, so it's tucked carefully away in a Christmas box.

I really, really love having this beautiful Christmas mantel, and so does Papa Bear.  He said that he has never seen it look quite as pretty as it does right now.
